The movie was pretty good overall, but the characters are one dimensional compared to Lord of the Rings. There was too much time spent on battles and not enough on the nuances of the book. The troll scene wasn't as scary as it was in the book, and the giant eagle scene was almost an afterthought. My husband, who hadn't read the book, was confused as to what was going on through most of it, so I had to explain it all at the end. I am hoping that the other two are better.
Cons one dimensional characters, didn't stick to the book, not as strong of good vs. evil as l.o.r.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
