Spiderman, Peter Pan, Lady Gaga & Cirque de Soleil have nothing on the spell-binding magic of this mixed-media event. Movie meets meets musical theater meets modern dance, with stunt doubles & special effects, 4-story morphing sets, good-looking, compelling actors and a dream-like score that never accompanies but instead interacts w/ the words, which are a contemporary take on Shakespeare's story. The music undulates, then sharply spikes & plummets like the ship and the sea,'tempestually'. The experience is really "Movie" interspersed w/ "Reality TV" during the backstage intermission segments. Hate, or have never seen an opera, but enjoy Broadway musicals? Know nothing about classical music or care to, but like different theatrical experiences? If so, try "The Tempest" or one of the other Met Opera HD broadcasts in a movie theater. Jeans and popcorn, 3 hours of something new and fun: great entertainment.
