Denzel Washington delivers a sterling performance as an ace pilot who is fighting with his demons, and is slowly losing the fight. Heroically landing an airplane which suffers a catastrophic mechanical failure, he resolves to clean up, and stop drinking. He manages, for a little while. But Whip can not stay away from the bottle.
Camera work and special effects are excellent in the film, and an eclectic sound track adds to the atmosphere. Solid, notable supporting acting is delivered by John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, and Tamara Tunie and (in a far too small role) James Badge Dale.
Recommended.
