I've been a big fan of the Avengers series so far, and this one is no exception. 'Thor' was well written, true to the comic, and full of awesome gratuitous explosions (which, to my mind, is important to a movie like this). Loki -- who looked a bit Withnail in his human-world gear -- stole the show right out from under everyone else.
My only complaint is that someone needs to tell Kenneth Branagh that it's okay to hold the camera still once in a while! Asgard looked utterly beautiful, but it was hard to see anything (not only there, but on Earth) because of the constant circular tracking shots. I got seasick after a bit, which is a pity because there was so much beautiful stuff there to look at. And I went to the normal 2D showing; I can't imagine how busy it would have looked in 3D.
This movie was a gorgeous, with mind-blowing visuals that used CG for its intended purpose rather than to simply overwhelm the eye. The acting was great, especially for a comic book adaptation, where the actors might otherwise be tempted to play caricatures.
However, I am enraged at the reviewers (here and elsewhere) complaining about the graphic sex and violence in this film. What inconsiderate and neglectful parent would take their child blindly to a movie that is clearly rated R -- in a rating system that was originally instituted for the benefit of the *parents*? There is no excuse for that sort of mindless, irresponsible action.
