I gotta say I really loved this film. It's presented as a light and fanciful comedy and don't get me wrong, there's plenty of comedy and witty dialogue to more than get your comedic fill out of the film. What really took this film to another level for me is how it presents the idea that love with a real person, not just the idea of one, is something that can't be controlled and comes with it's set of challenges for both people in the relationship. I won't spoil anything, but I was also very pleasantly surprised how dark one of the scenes towards the end of the film got. It was one of the more intense sequences I've seen in a film this year and left me not knowing exactly how it was going to end.
Really liked everyone involved, especially the two leads. Paul Dano showed amazing versatility in not only being the tortured writer, but being more than affable in the comedic bits, especially early on when he first discovers Ruby in his apartment. To me, Zoe Kazan is a revelation in this film. Not only for her very impressive first time screenplay full of charm, wit, and insight, but the layers she gives Ruby as an actor. I can't recommend this movie enough.
Pros great story, great actors, great balance of comedy and drama
