I'm just going to echo the comments I've seen here that this is an outstanding movie. Ledger does deserve all Oscar consideration for his performance. His Joker is simply amazing. That performance is one of the best I've seen in a long time. The film itself is extremely good, and one I would consider seeing in on the big screen again (like the IMAX if I can talk someone into it!). Getting the DVD is not even debatable. I have to put this at the top of my list of films of the year. And I'm not even a Batman fan, just a fan of good, well made films. This was one of those.
Maybe the movie they're showing in Council Bluffs was different from the one I saw last night in Omaha, but it was far from awesome (see the earlier review!).
It was enjoyable, it was great to see the same characters again, and the humor was still there after all this time (the look Skinner gets from Scully when he says Mulder is not the type to do anything crazy). But I agree with others that it was a long episode, but not a movie's worth of the X-Files. In fact it didn't even touch on the main theme of the X-Files. Heck, even Indy did that (but I wish they'd switch plot endings - would have made more sense for both films).
Overall, a good film but disappointing for true fans, I think. Good for those who aren't familiar with the series, but maybe not spectacular enough to make new fans.
My family went to a matinee on Sunday. We all liked the film, but there were some things about it that I didn't like. The voice of Abe was not that of David Hyde Pierce as in the first movie, despite the credit given by this website - that just set the film off a step. The fact that Agent Myers had left seems to be a hole in the story line that was patched but not filled. We didn't quite understand the "reaction" of the public to Hellboy after destroying the tentacled creature (tentacles seem to be really popular in the dark places of the world). And my eldest daughter pointed out that several of the more fantastic characters were retreads taken from the movie Pan's Labyrinth, including the angel of death.
But, the action scenes were very well done, and the film was very enjoyable. The scene of the troll's market was very good. We especially commented on the scene with the one creature's baby tumor; that was funny. Overall, it was good enough to see on the big screen, but I'm not putting it the very top of my list of films to buy on DVD. So far that goes to Iron Man and Indiana Jones.

My wife, my daughter (15) and I all loved the film. I thought it was done perfectly in the Indiana Jones style, complete with great stunts, jokes, and lots of action. After the film, my daughter and I agreed that we'd like to get back to Disneyland and ride the Indiana Jones ride again. I will agree with another commenter that the story line was a bit out of the style; perhaps the theme would have fit other genre films better. And based on another comment, if the series is unknown to some of the younger crowd, this one may be less enjoyable. But, I would think most Indy fans will get a kick out of this one. All in all, a very enjoyable film. Well done.
