The movie, as a modern sci fi type, was fairly good. Special effects, set design, and premise were great. But I do not think the movie deserves all the hype its getting.
It tends to leave more questions than answers, has poor character development and makes leaps and bounds without any cohesive connection.
One scene, one of the characters tries to make conversation and is told, "Im here to keep you safe, not to make friends" .... then, suddenly, the guy who would be assumed to be a security team member, suddenly freaks out at the sight of an alien corps, and then he becomes a geologist. The fact that he acts like some hard tough guy, then some panty wetting jelly back is a leap I failed to understand. Then the "geologist" along with his partner are headed back to a ship and get lost... really?? Lost in a round room???
The second guy with the geologist, who is "freaked out" by the sight of the dead alien corps, suddenly gets balls and talks sweet to an alien worm. The two don't really mesh well. Freaked out by something dead, and then attempting to pet an alien worm. No precaution or conception of danger by this guy toward a living alien species. He tries to pet it.
Why does it just happen to be the Captain gets to have sex with the ONE Ice Queen on the ship???
What happened to the other two pilots, very little development with their characters. And at the end, if you're going to drive your ship into a head on collision into a much larger ship, why does it take 3 guys to do it?? Even the worst driver in the world can drive a car into a barn.
I think those critiques out there who do this for a living, need to stop drinking the koolaid and actually critique the movie on the merits, it was a cool concept, but actually fell flat..... leaving more questions than any sort of answers.
