I was wonderfully surprised by how well the characters K and J were further developed. To see each of their pasts touch at one moment in time years before they became obviously destined partners made their connection as partners so much more real. Also, I was thoroughly intrigued by the creativity of coming up with alien characters of such depth and uniqueness.
