If you like The Ring, you will find that this is a fantastic production. All the singers are excellent, the acting (for an opera) is remarkably good, the set and clothing are authentic and well done and the camera work likewise. Personally, I find 4 and 1/2 hours of Wagner a bit much, and I find Wagner's Ring not as involving as a good American made movie, but if you like The Ring and want to see it close up and in a superb production I highly recommend this version. The theater was only about 20% or 25% filled so seating is easy. I appreciate that Rave/Imax offers this. Oh, and James Levine and the MET orchestra are wonderful.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a great way to see the opera...affordable and with better seats than I could afford at a live opera. Filming was well done, acting and singing were well done, the orchestra played well and the sets were appropriate and cleverly done. As to the story, well, it is Wagner. The concerns of the protagonists are not mine and the story is rather long though not difficult to follow. I am hoping that as the series progresses we will get more into the 'light'. It will take stamina to sit for the upcoming 4 hour programs (with intermissions) but I intend to see the next one. I am very happy that musical events such as this are made available by my local theater and would like to support this. I was happy to see James Levine come to take his bow but sad to see how frail he has become. He is such a nice guy and such a terrific musician. I hope he will recover enough to feel better and return to conducting.
Pros great actors, well done, staged well, genuine wagner
