Caution: Review pertains particularly to ACTING, VISUAL EFFECTS, CINEMATOGRAPHY, and STORYLINE.
REVIEW:
Scintillating and subtly thought provoking! Although there were some inaccuracies, such as, How did Radha know Krish only met her two hours after his break up with Meera when he never mentioned the time frame, other than "We broke up... the night I met you!"
ACTING:
Otherwise the character transformation of Shahid from Govind to Krish to Javed was impressively flawless and entrancing. Priyanka's versatility as Rukhsar, Radha, and Aradhana was as expected.... SPECTACULAR!
VISUAL EFFECTS:
However, I was slightly disappointed with the VFX effects in the 1960s era. It might of been more effective to incorporate a little DOF (Depth Of Field) to give the green/blue screen set effects a bit more of a realistic affect through depth by blurring or defocussing on some of the non focal points.
CINEMATOGRAPHY:
Kunal Kohli and his team did an excellent job at staying true and honest to each era of the film, whether it was the aspect of the controversial love story between a successful actress and a struggling middle class musician in 1960, the perspective of the modern society, relationships, media, social networks in 2012, or the unrequited love story of the flirtatious Javed who gives up his bachelordom to pursue Aradhana the daughter of an Indian activist against the British pre independence in 1910.
STORY:
Overall, I would say that Teri Meri Kahani is a production for audiences with a more open and refined perspective. TMK is not a typical punar janam (reincarnation film). It is more an individual take on the concept of the Hindu belief of Saat Phere (The holy 7 rounds of marriage) signifying the promise of being together for 7 lifetimes. While most other films focus on the love story and journey to realization to triumph over adversity and achieve true love, TMK explores the idea, through 3 different time eras (1960 to 2012 to 1910), of not knowing who, when, or where you might meet someone from a past life without any recollection of the person. I would recommend this movie as a great past time and must see movie of the year.
Pros well paced, great story
Cons not appealing to all audiences
Yes, I recommend this movie.
