Personally, I think the whole Krypton sequence was unnecessary and detracts from the sense of "reality" that the rest of the movie wants to convey. Jor-El explains to his son what's going on anyway on a later sequence, making the whole prologue pointless. Begin in Smallville with a young Clark trying to cope with his powers, focus on that and his later quest for answers, and the rest is fine.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
