Didn't live up to the hype

Expectations will do you in every time.
Rotten Tomatoes had an 80% fresh from the critics, 90% fresh from fans, and the buzz we'd heard from friends was also enthusiastic, so we arrived anticipating the best.
I will say that reactions from our party of four were all over the map, with mine being the least positive. When asked by a colleague if it was a "must see" movie, I had to answer "No".
There were plenty of dated parallels HG brought to mind, The Running Man, Logan's Run and Rollerball being a few.
I didn't feel we were seeing anything new, but simply revisiting old tropes with a new (and admittedly talented) set of faces.
If you can do this flick on a bargain basement matinee, go for it. But spending top dollar and dragging the entire family? Not so much.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
