My wife and I both enjoyed all the other Resident Evil movies. We found them exciting, well made, good character development etc. However, this latest movie was seriously one of the worst movies either of us have ever seen. They spent more time worrying about special effects and making the movie "cool for 3d" than they did about developing the plot, characters, or spending a little bit of time on the dialogue. All the dialogue was so incredibly predictable and I have honestly seen better dialogue on some of video games out there then in this movie. After sitting there hoping it would end soon, we also came to the realization that absolutely nothing was accomplished. Its like they made an entire movie because they knew they had to but didnt want to further the story much at all.
What I mean by that is the entire movie takes place inside a testing facility that re-enacts actual events which happened in major cities across the globe. So they are not fighting the real zombie apocalypse or figuring out how to end it once and for all or anything that would be considered progress. Literally the entire movie was the escape from the facility and it isnt until the last minute of the movie that you see what they are really up against next.
I also think its ridiculous that they built a ton of hype around old characters coming back. They should have just said "old actors coming back" because they played clones of their former selves for the most part and were not even the same characters from the other movies. This movie was so misguided and horribly done besides a few cool effects and trying to make you jump it literally missed the mark on all levels.
It would have been better not to have wasted all of our time with horrible acting (even from Milla) and just moved along in the story a bit. This movie feels like it was made to coincide with the video game instead of letting the movie develop into its own more complex storyline. I can't say enough about how bad the acting was. Seriously the entire movie my wife and I just kept looking at eachother saying... this is so bad! What were they thinking???
I truly think this has ruined the franchise and if they keep making these, this will be the one movie people say, "Oh I have the entire series but we can just skip over retribution... nothing really happens at all."
