2 Guns was a fun movie that I am certain to watch again. It is a gritty CIA/DEA/Mil-Intel/Crime Thriller based around bank robbery money, drugs, and a Mexican drug lord. While I find it silly that men can get shot in one scene and fight and stuff in the next, this was based on a comic book story, which I am sure had "superhero-ish" characters. The comic aspect does not come through in the movie though, which was good. I recommend this one to ALL cop and military action/thriller fans. Great acting carries a "comic book" plot that has more twists than a roller coaster! 4 stars - MR

The girls love this guy as much as the comic book fans!
I have to admit up front I am not a great big X-Men fan. I liked the movies, but haven’t even had the desire to see Origins or any of the newer releases. The Wolverine tickets were a gift, so-to-speak, and I liked it enough to honestly say it surprised me. Hugh Jackman has the gig down pat. I think he and Sly Stallone have the same vein guy…lol I can only hope whoever came up with the element, Adamantium, or whatever, wasn’t just an Adam Ant fan. The fights were amazing, especially the high-speed train scenes. Pointless gunfights, and blades slinging silvery arcs of blood, all over the place, and what-not, keep the time between long romance scenes. The girls love this guy as much as the comic book fans, and that’s just hard to accomplish. I’ll go 4 stars and recommend this cool action flick to anyone who likes the sound of steel on steel, or the X-Men in general. – MR

A “Must See” for fans of westerns, Depp, and The Lone Ranger. – MR
This movie is almost two and a half hours long. All-in-all it is a fun take on the old tale. (no new plot here, save for the in depth look at Tonto’s past) Some Texas Rangers get ambushed and only one survives, leaving a Lone Ranger. A dead brother who’s wife loved them both at one point, gives us a great damsel, add her impressionable son, a corrupt train mogul, a scary outlaw who eats parts of his victims, and a pair of hero’s that carry the film with their antics, and you’ve got a good western romp. Depp plays a great Tonto, especially, the old Tonto that starts the flick. My only negative is this: Two hours of s – l – o – w build up for thirty minutes of over the top climax is not that great of a ratio for a film. Thirty minutes of it could have been edited out and the thing would have been perfect. 4 stars, A “Must See” for fans of westerns, Depp, and The Lone Ranger. – MR *See the full review here: twittersfantasyebookguide . wordpress . com
Great effects alone make this one worth watching. Almost everyone is familiar with Oz and the idea that the wizard there is just a charlatan with believers. This movie enforces that theme in a somewhat fun way, with awesome visualizations and set work. I see these same actors in all too many movies together though. They should expand and act with other, better actors, so they can learn.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A fun thrilling ride for the whole family to enjoy... Even dad!
I liked this whole movie. Only one gripe, the unenthusiastic voice of Fixit Felix. Other than that this was a riot. A fun thrilling ride for the whole family to enjoy... Even dad!
There is a book though, "The Adventurion," that came out a few years before this movie. Same idea just slightly different story line. I think there should have been a "based on" notation at the end, but Hollywood has little concern for copyright.
We saw this in IMAX 3D and it was worth the extra cost of the ticket. I have only one gripe about this awesome piece of fantasy. I could have read more of the book than I saw on the screen in the same amount of time. Peter Jackson is great, but my imagination is way better. So why make a 300 page book into a trilogy? Why make a 2.5 hour movie from a hundred book pages?
Money… Sad but true.
I loved the characters and the movie stuck to the novel very well. The stopping point is understandable, but the movie is not “There and Back Again” it is “An Unexpected Journey.” The effects are superb, the creatures quite chilling. All in all I give this 4 stars, taking one away for being too long. If you liked the books or the other movies from LOTR, you’ll feel right at home at this one! Another fantasy movie for the ages! Highly Recommended!
Life of Pi was visually stunning and very very good. It had a slow start and seemed as if the film makers were trying to prepare American audiences for the Indian religion and culture of the main character. In the novel by Yann Martel, these aspects were less obvious, but still prevalent to the “seeking God” aspects of the plot.
An interesting note: The novel was rejected by at least five London publishing houses before being accepted by Knopf Canada, which published it in September 2001. This just goes to prove again how literary publishers have no idea what is really great.
I found that after the story really starts, when Pi and Richard Parker are on the boat lost at sea, the fantastic takes over and we are taken into a world of incredible scope, where nothing is impossible.
I give Life of Pi 4 stars and highly recommend it. It is visually stunning and has fantastic imagery. — MR
