While being an avid teen reader of this series (ive read them all 7 times) I loved the violence in the books and didnt think they totally encaptured all that was in the book. i think they skipped some crucial lines and moments in the book. Granted, the movie may have then been 3 1/2 hours long, but it would be worth it. I still loved the movie, i cried 3 separate times, but the casting was excellent and they couldnt have done a better job encapturing the oppressive nature of the Capitol and the struggles Katniss and the rest of the tributes had to work against. all i would say would be that some of the more important parts were rushed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
