Whenever a low budget film like "Paranormal Activity" scores big, you can expect the Hollywood machine to squeeze everything they can out of the cow. Sadly, with "Paranormal Activity 3" they milked it for laughs, and lost all the scares.
There are some good performances in there, and some tense moments. Ultimately however it falls short of its target, which is, after all, a horror movie.
(spoiler alert!)
One problem was the red herring dragged across in the previews. The old chestnut of "Bloody Mary" gets dragged in to the mix fairly early; but aside from one possible "boo" moment, its a dead end (hahaha). There is an excellent creepy moment involving a sheet and some misdirection, but that only resulted in a laugh from the audience when it could have gotten some shrieks.
Finally, the directors (the guys from "Catfish"), the producers or the writers fell victim to the worst sin in horror films; its all because of a witch cult. This is so tired, so vastly overdone, I even heard some jeers when that plot line turned up.
I give this one two stars, but only because my date and I got some laughs.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Deathly Hallows part 2

I was very impressed with the final Harry Potter film. It's always difficult to translate a novel to film, especially a copious one like "The Deathly Hallows". The script managed to keep a great deal of exposition without bogging down in tedious talking heads. Visually the film was spectacular, at least in IMAX 3D. Even though I have read the books (several times, in fact) I saw no gaping omissions; and the moving moments such as seeing Tonks, Remus and Fred all dead still worked. I thought they missed one touch with Tonks and Remus, but I will leave that unmentioned to see if anyone else thinks as I did. Even the final talk between Dumbledore and Harry, which seemed a bit iffy in the book worked well.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Yes, I admit it; I have seen the movie six times now in 3-D, and I even rented the Blu-Ray DVD when it came out. I'm waiting for the Marketing guys to decide how many versions they release before I buy it.......
Now, as for the "new" version, No spoilers! I liked the additions. While they really did not add volumes to the movie, or make the plot more convoluted in any way (it's still "Dances With Wolves"/"Pocahontas" on hallucinogens) I had no issues with the added bits.
Unlike some changes, such as the politically corrected "E.T." (shame on you Steve) or the badly weakened "Close Encounters" (two for two Steve! Get a clue!) these worked. They added a bit more depth, I suppose, and even had a nice added bonding bit. Still, it was fine as it was released. I will say that it was nice to see what James Cameron wanted to include, rather like the expanded versions of the "Lord of the RIngs" trilogy from Peter Jackson.
The best part of the re-release, frankly, is the chance to see the incredible vistas of Pandora again; with all the little detials of tiny insects, fascinating life forms (the pseudo-bison are cool... more "Dances With Wolves" tribute) and incredible flora and geography, this is a visual extravaganza; an "all-you-can-eat" treat for your eyes and imagination.
I wish James Cameron had gotten to "Dune" instead of that skawng David Lynch... sigh.... oh well, maybe Mr. Cameron will do a remake. As for "Avatar", in either release version: "Mowan nixtan!"
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I lost 2 hours of my life

This movie was a waste of my time, and my hard-earned $8.75, plus popcorn. The premise was OK, and the "Blair Witch" style of hand held camera fake documentary was fine. However, the movie began to break down when they began to suspect incest and abuse. Why not call the police? Plot hole. From there, the movie degenerated badly, moving the plot forward by having people make stupid, uncharacterisitic decisions. The ending was appallingly dim. Also, I find it annoying to see trailers and ad copy (see the poster above) that intentionally mislead. She is actually crouched on top of her dresser, not pasted magically in the corner.
