So old-fashioned, it's new again

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. While I don't expect directors to return to a silent format, these filmmakers knew how to do it and make the experience enchanting throughout, and it wasn't just a random choice. As the story chronicles the death of the silent film, you viscerally knew exactly what was being lost - it wasn't just George's career that was drying up, but an entire art form - one the audience was now intimately familiar with. The touches of sound, while rare, we're expertly placed. I know who I'm voting for on Oscar night.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Meryl, Amazing. Movie, Okay

If you're going to see this movie because you love Meryl Streep, then you'll get your money's worth, down to the penny. If you want to learn more about Margaret Thatcher, British Politics, or are just a history buff, you might be disappointed. The movie tells you that Thatcher was controversial, historic, and important, but doesn't really supply the "why" or the "how." However, many of the individual scenes within the choppy narrative play amazingly well, mostly thanks to Meryl.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
