This was a bit too much of a deviation from the book for my taste. It was good and you will enjoy it more if you have read the book prior to seeing. If you are from the south, the lead character's accents will be a distraction as they are a bit off and the word usage isn't quite right for that dialect.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
