I really wanted to like "Hotel Transylvania," especially when critics I respect said it was well-made. I'm a "Big Sister" and I take my "Little Sister" to a lot of movies: she was looking forward to this one too, having seen the trailers for it. I also took a friend of hers (my Little Sister is ten, her friend is eleven). While the kids seemed entertained by parts of the movie, they also seemed bored at times. That was my reaction too.
The movie was certainly clever with good special effects, and a happy ending; but it was all very predictable: nothing to make you remember it later on. The celebrities who did the voices did a fine job with what they had to work with, and the music was entertaining, although I didn't hear a song that I would want to hear again. As I said, while the movie's special effects were indeed clever, you got the sense you'd seen this plot before, and even seen some of these effects. I am not sorry I went, nor were the kids, but "Madagascar III" and "Brave" were much better movies.

I'm a Big Sister and I took my Little Sister to see Madagascar 3. Both of us really enjoyed it. The music fit well with the plot, the characters were entertaining, and the special effects were fun to watch. The movie dragged a little bit in the middle but once it headed into the conclusion, it came up strong with a positive message about loyalty and friendship. And we're both still singing "dum-dum-da-da-da-da-dum-dum: Circus!" A very clever and entertaining movie, with something to like for adults as well as kids.
