I think this is the first time I was in the middle of watching a movie and it hit me that I absolutely had to get the DVD. Pure movie magic

Like a wonderful little bedtime story. I don't think my parents got it but their hatboxes are full.

I will quickly add my recommendation to see the original first if you can. It adds texture to what's in this film.
But if you wait for this on DVD, you're missing out. I've seen it once in 3D and twice in 3D Imax and it's amazing up there. The story is basic Hero's Journey with philosophical sci-fi undertones, attractive leads of both genders and a hybrid of David Bowie and Jack Sparrow running around. Metropolis' new cut rocked my summer and this rocked my winter.
Just as you wouldn't look up Harry Potter on deviantart or fanfiction.net without having read the books first, so it goes with WB's Potter movie series. This one is a step above the ones before it, perhaps because it is the first to be made following the final book. What is relevant to the rest of the story has been included. But make no mistake- you will most certainly be lost if you don't have a passing knowledge of the original books.
As for the IMAX 3D, I am extremely disappointed it was only for the opening sequences- especially since they had an 8-month delay.
