This movie was more than I ever expected! Seeing it in 3D added a depth of realism that was excellent! They did not go over the top with it and make it dorky with the 3D. Instead, it was used sparingly on the things that seemed to appear to be coming out of the screen. Otherwise, it was mostly used for depth of vision.
Some of the dialogue got a little silly but I was able to gloss over it. On the whole, it was excellent. The action was heartpounding and thrilling! The scenery was spectacular! Loved the modelmaking and the special effects. Rivendell was not exactly what I had pictured in my mind's eye. Not elvish enough. I do like the way they have done Gollum. As a fan of the books for decades and having seen all three of the Ring Trilogy films, I can say that this is an added gem to those. Just wish they had released all of The Hobbit at once instead of deciding to make us wait with a 3 parter. Oh well, hope I live that long. The ending of this part was wonderful; I was a little worried about where the breaks would come. Smaug's eye was perfect!

This is definitely worth the time and money; so go see it! Loved the special effects and art direction was awesome. The "baby" effects were off and kind of distracted from the movie but they are few and soon over once the child grows. Also, there were some very corny lines in the movie but I forgive them. Loved Bella's reactions to being a "newborn" and her discovery of her powers. But the best of all was the twist ending! No spoilers here from me; just know that it will blow your socks off! I can't wait now for the release of all the movies in one collector's edition. I plan to hold my own Twilight Marathon when that happens! Oh, and yes, Pattinson was as hot as ever!

This was an awesome movie! Best that I've seen in a long time. Read the book and though the movie doesn't quite follow it, I think it surpassed the book. Loved the CGI effects and the vampires were really scary! Did feel the horse stampede scene was a little improbable, but hey, they get artistic license. The train scene was great! So much tension and so thrilling to watch! Loved the actor who played Lincoln; he looked so much like him. How cool was it that he used an axe to behead the vampires? Watching him juggle the axe was amazing! I wonder if he really learned how to do that or if it was special effects? A bit of history thrown in for good measure. Made me smile when I heard young 20 somethings asking, "Who was that?" when a historical political figure was mentioned. Thought the vampire Sturgiss was played excellently by that actor and he got a lot of sympathy from me. About the only negative was making the Confederate soldiers vampires! Why is the South always portrayed as the bad guy and someone to be feared and hated? Don't know if they used reenactors in this movie; didn't see the credits. But I think a lot of them would have declined because it made the Battle of Gettysburg into a mockery of what actually took place there. That said, and put aside, I loved this movie and will watch it again. Have already recommended it to friends and family. Hope it has a sequel set in present times!

What a great movie! It's going to be hard to wait for Part 2 to come out next year. This film started slow but built up to a great conclusion with a twist in the ending after the credits were partially run. I laughed, I cried and I held my breath on lots of scenes. Wow! This was worth the price of the ticket and did not disappoint.
