Some of the most interesting insights I've gotten into what the United States is all about have come from immigrants - people from other countries who chose to become Americans. And this movie, which was made by an immigrant from India, is no exception. You will hear what people in other parts of the world think of the U.S., and you will find that it varies depending on where they live. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, I suspect you will find the movie interesting.
Pros interesting perspective
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Christian Bale Batman movies have definitely carved their own niche in the telling of the Batman story, exploring not just why, but also how Bruce Wayne became Batman, adding a tad more realism to the Batman gadgetry than had previously been done, and creating villains that have been, at times, frighteningly true to life. Christian Bale announced before this movie was released that he intends it to be his last Batman movie, and while I'd have preferred to have had a few more entries and to have seen what they might have done with some of the other classic Batman villains, if the series had to end, this movie has certainly given it a worthy ending. IMAX added an extra intensity to the action.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If it's important to you that movies at least pretend to be plausible, then this movie isn't for you. But if you're willing, for an hour and 40 minutes, to throw plausibility to the wind and immerse yourself in a modern day fairy tale that is at times heartwarming and that may at times put a lump in your throat, then you'll probably enjoy "The Odd Life of Timothy Green". The part of Timothy is captivatingly played by C.J. Adams, who brings to the part the right combination of cuteness, charm, and innocence.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The latest fad in Hollywood seems to be the "why are we doing a remake?" remake. Remakes are nothing new, of course, and can be worthwhile when a memorable film has been tarnished by dated film-making techniques. But, besides 3-D, there really haven't been any major innovations since the 2002 version of Spiderman that would justify a remake. I didn't think the addition of 3-D was enough to justify remaking the movie, nor did I find this one quite as captivating as the Tobey McGuire version.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Sequels have a bad reputation in the movie world, and second sequels have an even worse reputation. So it's refreshing to see a second sequel like this one where the creative juices were still flowing. The zany humor and fun special effects are still there, but they found a way to add a new element to the story that could keep it interesting. And, of course, the 3-D made the special effects even more fun!
Pros great story
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie brings together superheroes who have previously appeared in their own movies and has them band together to face the same adversary. I would suggest renting the movies in which each superhero appeared alone before watching this one, since I think it will increase your enjoyment of The Avengers. The movie creates a realistic plot thread about whether superheroes who are used to working alone can really be comfortable working together, as well as including a host of impressive special effects. I think that the signature line of the movie is likely to be the unfinished sentence: that they can't be the Avengers without something to avenge.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Entertaining sequel to the 2008 movie

The 2008 movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth" was one of the first movies to use the new 3D technology, but also managed to find a new twist on Verne's story (though I remember it was a little hard to explain to people that it was based on the book, but wasn't just a movie version of the book). In this sequel, neither the 3D nor the twist are new, but it still manages to be entertaining and fun. Josh Hutcherson reprises his role as Sean Anderson.

When the Star Wars movies were first introduced, they were on the cutting edge of movie making technology. 70mm film and dolby stereo sound (which weren't common in those days) were used to enhance the whole experience. Film making technology was so important to the movies that Lucas even rereleased the first three to bring their special effects up to the new levels that had become possible when the last three were made. So it's not surprising that he also wanted to update the series to take advantage of 3D technology. I wasn't sure what to expect, since the original movie hadn't been shot in 3D. But the 3D certainly looked genuine, and this made the scenes take on a degree of reality that I hadn't seen before. I actually feel now like I've been to the Star Wars universe!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent telling of an important part of history!

The story of the Tuskegee airmen had previously been told in a 1995 HBO movie, but in this version, George Lucas gives it the kind of presentation that can only be done in a feature film. Those who have already seen the 1995 movie will recognize a few incidents here and there, but there is also a lot of new material. Above all, the movie is an exploration of how the Tuskegee airmen conquered the prejudice against them through the sheer excellence of their own performance, while at the same time striking a blow at the philosophical roots of Naziism when the planes of the Third Reich were so devastatingly defeated by pilots who were decidedly non-Aryan.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The terrorist attack of 9/11/2001 had already given rise to two feature films: 'United 93' (about the passengers who tried to retake their plane from the hijackers) and 'World Trade Center' (about 3 rescue workers who were trapped by the building's collapse). But the vast majority of the victims of 9/11 were neither plane passengers nor rescue workers - they were the thousands of people who died because they went to work that day and the countless people whose lives were permanently changed by what happened. And for the latter, the 9/11 attack was not over in a day, or a month, or even a year. This movie tells that part of the story by showing it through the eyes of a young boy, who is outstandingly played by Thomas Horn. The boy is not typical, since he apparently suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, but there really are no typical 9/11 stories - only thousands of atypical ones. And I was impressed by how much of the reality this movie managed to get its arms around. It expresses what happened rather than trying to tie everything up into a neat little package, but it is, in the end, a story of how humans can triumph over tragedy!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
