I saw this for the first time in it's last week off Broadway which made me very hesitant to see this movie, as it was the best time I'd ever had at a musical and I didn't want to taint that with a comparison.
I have to say, the first thirty minutes made me very nervous. I was having a hard time enduring the less than average performances of the two leads. But after Catherine Zeta Jones and Tom Cruise made their first screen appearances, it rectified the situation and had me. They absolutely stole the show and helped make this movie what it was.
If you're looking for a good time and a fun movie, go see it. The tone of this movie is campy and fun and if you know that going in, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Great surprise cameos and appearances, and light hearted. It often mocks itself throughout the movie which is funny - and smart- too. It's a pretty good time with greats songs and I don't think you'll ever love Tom Cruise more.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
