I saw this movie on strong recommendations from critics and a family member. I was looking for a rainy day escapist movie that would kill 2 hours of my day.
It ended up being an ordeal of animal and human suffering that I found laborious, continually hoping to get to a "happy" part that would give me some emotional uplift. Never found it. I found Castaway to be a better stranded story with a more uplifting ending.
Great CGI affects however.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Great special affects but acting was painfully bad and dialogue and story line very predictable. Not worth the $10.50 I shelled out.

I went to this movie not knowing the story line or frankly, having great expectations. I had read enough critical remarks about the acting, plot and how it bombed at the box office after blowing $250mil.
I was pleasantly surprised on how much I liked this movie, it was fast paced, good special affects and not as predictable as others have indicated in their reviews. The two hours went by fast. I'm an avid movie goer and would not hesitate recommending this to anyone who may be on the fence about seeing it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you read the book, the scenes of brutality will not be a shock, which it apparently was to some viewers doing reviews here. I liked 2009 Swedish version but this one IMO was much better, soley on the acting and appearance of Rooney Mara. She is Lisabeth Salander just as you would picture from Larsson's novel. Outstanding acting by her along with the cast. The movie dragged a bit every now and if you pay attention, you will hear Daniel Craig's accent go from Swedish in the beginning to British toward the end. Aside from that, the movie was worth the price and the 2 hours 40 minutes went by pretty fast.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Painfully unfunny

I was really wanting to like this movie but it's an unfunny dud. It's an akward comedy w/o the laughs and aside from a few light moments it basically fell flat. I felt the story and directing went out of the way to not offend anyone on the planet so there was nothing to laugh at, or about.
Eat a bowl of corn flakes without milk or sugar, you'll get the idea.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I'm an avid movie goer and I really, really wanted to like this movie since I'm into Civil War history and I totally respect and admire Robert Reford, but this movie stunk! As posted by a few others, the screenplay was horrible, acting worse (except Tom Wilkenson) and BORING!! Repeat, BORING! Wanted to walk out like a few others but it was pouring rain. Hindsight, getting wet would have been better.
