I saw the 3D version at a normal theater and this new 3D is SIMPLY AWESOME! There is still a small loss of focus at times in the real life scenes that use 3D cameras, but all of the animated 3D is perfect. The story line is superb as well. Sigorney Weaver is back after a very long stint of so-so to bad movies, and Sam Worthington is simply the whole movie. His performance in this movie is just as spectacurlar as his performance in Terminator.
Sensors were placed on every visible part of the actor's bodies and computers recorded every little movement as they acted. The aliens are around 11 feet tall, if I remember correctly, and there isn't a single shot in the entire movie that contradicts this, unlike previous movies.
The original was very well made. It flowed well, the character development was smooth, and you just overall felt good about the movie. This sequel; however, is lacking in all of those areas. The storyline is very disjointed. The first half of the movie feels like you are watching a dream sequence, while in fact you are not. The Edward character is extremely poorly written as suicidal maniac. Fortunately, the Jacob character is fairly well written (with a couple bad spots) to help tie the mess together. The entire movie feels like it was written by an amateur, but it is a must see if you want to follow the series. I do hope that they get their act together for the next sequel, but we'll just have to wait and see.
...the edited scenes are holding out on you while in present time (has a few flash-backs). They conveniently leave out key actions that are going on before your eyes and then show flash-backs at the end after everyone knows what is going on. It's one thing to leave an entire scene out where you can't be a fly on the wall, but it's something entirely different to edit out parts of a scene where you are the fly. The acting is very well done, which makes it extremely difficult to figure out what is really happening with the edited scenes. When Milla's character is telling the story of her first love, I knew that it was he who was the murderer, and I was right. I just didn't know who "he" was. Enjoy the show. The cinematography is GREAT!
Star Trek obviously takes top honors, but G.I. Joe definitely delivers. The only reason it doesn't take first is because there are too many flash-backs, ice floats (you'll know what I mean when you see the movie), and while the cinematography is AWESOME, many of the action shots are too tightly framed (close-up). The action is great, and the CGI has been taken to a whole new level. The CGI and green screen work is so seamless, that it will blow your mind. The story is very well thought out, but I wish there was a little more about snake and that it was presented earlier in the movie. BTW, it does seem like they ran out of money while making the epilogue (cheap CGI there). :)
This sequel delves into the background of the Autobots and Cybertron, as well as greatly expanding the Autobot cast. The 2.5 hours did seem to fly as the movie keeps a fairly constant momentum and does a very good job at doing it. The character development of Sam, his parents, and Mikaela, continues to expand, while the other human characters seem to be stagnant, but played well. The new Autobot characters may seem a little off, and they are supposed to be off. They do add to the story.
Thus far, StarTrek is by far the best movie this year and Transformers is definitely in second. This movie will entertain you, and it is slightly better than the first, but it is not quite at the "Aliens" level.
First off, I don't like Christian Bale at all, and fortunately his presense is rather limited. The entire storyline is around the Marcus and Reese (Checkov in Startrek) characters, which is just plain AWESOME! It's the ending that is preventing me from giving it 5 stars. I would have much rather lost John Connor than lose Marcus, but what's done is done. The movie follows the original storyline and does not take anything from "The Sarah Connor Cronicles", another loss.
This is by far the best Startrek movie of them all. The new timeline is not only AWESOME, it begins a completely brand new generation of Startrek with only some minor ties (Spock) to the original storyline.
The original cast started everything, but very few of them were REAL actors. Which is why I am sure that Shatner wasn't worked into this movie in any way. The current cast is nothing but AWESOME, and there were times that I just couldn't stop laughing. If you have seen the original pilot, "The Menagerie", and the original series, you will know from the beginning that things have changed. ENJOY THEM!
The title of this post says it all. The story line is just your average monster movie with a bit of Hitchcock added to the mix, but the direction and cinematography are horendous. This could have been an awesome movie, something like the Resident Evil series, but it is a perfect example of who should and should not be making movies. It is made exactly like the Legend of Boggy Creek movies of the 70s, and marketted in the exact same way. Don't waste your money. It's not even worthy of DVD.
The entire movie is shot handheld without any stablizers. What this means is that you will get dizzy (unless you are stoned) and some people may even puke their guts out. One reason for shooting like this is so that you don't have to spend as much money on sets and special effects, which does show. However, I have this really bad feeling that the director didn't realize how much he could cut back and actually spent $10 million to make this movie.
Save your money and let the studios (including the independants) know that this type if movie making is not acceptable.
