I had wanted to see this movie for a while but never really had the time until yesterday. Overall, I would say it was good but not great. A pleasant time with some very funny moments but not the nonstop, riotously funny film I had been made to believe by others.
I am disappointed in this latest installment in the series and surprisingly, would place this after the Temple of Doom in quality. That's something I never thought could happen based on that story. Overall, I think from the outset, the story tries to be too ambitious and cover too many facets without giving adequate time and development to any of them. Moreover, I think that there was an assumed familiarity with the Crystal skull mythos that does not exist. Unlike things like the Ark and the Holy Grail where there is a basic familiarity with those concepts, the story behind 13 crystal skulls and their implications is not something your average Joe would understand. Finally, for all that I have said, the movie was not BAD....there were some realy good moments. But the ending...maybe the last 20 minutes or so....was just plain awful. It seems that Mr. Lucas and Mr. Spielberg have to fall back on this one over and over and over and over. An unsatisfactory ending to a disappointing movie
