Fright Night stunk. Instead of being scary, it was stupid. The visual effects looked fake. There were a few suspenseful moments, but not many. This movie makes you want to laugh more than scream. I can't believe Colin Farrell and Toni Collette would reduce themselves to appearing in this kind of movie.
The Smurfs was actually a pretty good kids movie. It surprised me. Classic cartoons turned into real life movies usually stink, besides Yogi Bear which was ok, but this movie was a major improvement over the other ones, like the Scooby-Doo movies by the same director, Raja Gosnell. The 3-D inhanced the viewing experience making it even more fun. Although the story was slightly flawed, it had good messages in it, to my surprise, and the final battle was surprisingly epic. All the characters are likable except George Lopez's voice as Grouchy was annoying. The most likable was Anton Yelchin as Clumsy, the film's protagonist. I was never a fan of The Smurfs, but now I can understand why it is popular.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger is probably the best Avenger of the bunch. The film has a good story, emotion, action, and good acting, especially by Chris Evans. The visual effects are done well, especially making a jacked Evans look skinny. It's one of those movies where the ending is its strong point, and that's definitely a good thing. This movie was one of the biggest surprises of the summer, and probably the best superhero movie of the year. Also, stay after the credits...
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

What I don't get is that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was supposed to be "major improvement" over Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and an attempt at the best action movie of all-time, and what we get is an overlong, overstuffed, dumb, not even or maybe slightly better than the second movie, piece of garbage. Also, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was miscast because it was hard to feel Sam's love for her when she's a supermodel. There were a few thrilling/intense scenes, but they're microscopic compared to the movie's 2 hour 37 minute running time, the longest in the trilogy. The IMAX 3-D was good but not enough to be the reason to see the movie. On top of all that, a lot of it doesn't make sense and the crude jokes are still there. Michael Bay promised us that this movie would be much better than the second one, and he broke his promise. Anyone surprised? Don't worry, they might have taken our money, but we'll be seeing this movie again during Razzie season. Bottom line, Transfomers: Dark of the Moon is Michael Bay to a T.

Super 8

Super 8 was a good movie. It had a good story and acting. The action was good, but most of the thrills you see coming already. It's one of those movies that's good and you're waiting for it to get great, and it never does. What it did a great job of was capturing 1979 with cinematography, art direction, and sound effects, making it feel like fantasy to younger people and nostalgic to older ones. J.J. Abrams did good this time around, but hasn't repeated the excellence he achieved with Star Trek two summers ago in 2009.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Fast Five

Fast Five was a good action movie. Of course, it is completely unrealistic, but it is one of those movies where you just go with it and have fun. It brings back many of the likable characters from the previous movies for one final mission. Overall, Fast Five is fun, edge-of-your-seat, if preposterous, entertainment.
