Ed TV meets Gladiator meets Dangerous Game

Like many top-tier action movies, this was well done and ultimately good entertainment that was worth the price of admission and the evening out, but it doesn't really reach beyond the realm of entertaining action film and make us think more broadly about the themes (whatever they were supposed to be). Jennifer Lawrence is terrific, and her career should expand into other projects that will provide even better opportunities to showcase her talents. I haven't read these books, so I don't have any previous experience or familiarity with the story -- while the movie was entertaining, it was less thought-provoking than I was expecting or hoping. So, enjoy, have fun, but don't expect this to provide major topics for conversation after you leave the theatre.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Clever, fun movie

The premise is that two guys go back to high school and pose as students to infiltrate a drug distribution ring -- one was a nerd, the other a popular tough guy. This leads to some pretty clever plot developments and humorous variations on situations commonly seen in the "undercover" and "buddy cop" genre, as well as themes about overcoming one's weaknesses. Both actors are very funny and have good comedic timing. There are times where it's too over the top, and I rolled my eyes a bit, but overall, if you're open to suspending reality and having fun, this was an enjoyable two hours, and the production succeeded in providing good, silly but clever entertainment.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Overhyped, overrated

Story was terrible. Lead character was poorly developed, and as a result we never really care what happens to her. She's just kind of annoying and weird. If that is what the director and writers were going for, then they succeeded. I don't really think Natalie's performance changed that very much, either. Confused that she is winning awards for this. Wish I had spent my time watching something else. Go rent The Red Shoes.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
