boring and contrived

I was excited about going to see this film. The concept was intriguing-some unseen force that adjusts the course of our lives to compensate for unforesen chance occurrences-,the stars were appealing and the trailer was exciting.
The film itself though? The trailer was the film. Beyond the compressed few moments in the trailer the rest was poorly contrived fill, inconsistent and totally unreal; the usual suspension of disbelief that I bring to any film couldn't save this one. From the very beginning where the actors meet and begin their romance in the men's room of a hotel, it fell flat. Emily Blunt hiding in a booth in the men's room? Hard to swallow that kind of unexplained event, which is the basis around which the film is built. I found myself bored through long stretches and the chase scenes were not nearly enough to save it.
Pity. Last week I saw the Liam Neeson film "Unknown" and loved it. After seeing the trailers for Adjustment Bureau, and seeing all the favorable professional reviews, I was anxious to see this one,
My advice--don't bother. See something else and enjoy the trailer.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon to trash a film, but I really found both the film and Ben Stiller's performance deadly dull. I admit I had doubts going in, because the trailers implied a clever and compelling film with hints of Woody Allen. Ben Stiller is no Woody Allen, nor was the script, and unfortunately my fears were well founded.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

While not the best film I've ever seen, it was well worth watching for its continual blending of suspense and inuendoes. It depicted a brutal and hypocritical world. Some, notably the NY Times' AO Scott) have called it an allegory that chronicles the precursor to tne Nazi generation, but while there's something to be said for that I think that's a little too pat. The brutality and vengefulness that was evident in both adults and children, is with us today, only not so out in the open. It is, unfortunately, one of the hallm arks of the human condition and not unique to rural pre WW1 Germany.
BTW, Haneke also directed "Cache" a French film that is also worth seeing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
