I loved this movie and can't wait for the next two.
Peter Jackson brings back the excitement of Middle-earth in The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey. He gives us insight to the history of the Dwarves, explores Radagast The Brown and his eccentricities and even reveals a little more about Gandalf. Sure, Jackson took some liberties with the story line by adding elements that weren't in the book and changing others that were. But what a ride. I saw it at 12:01 AM with my 24 year old son in 48 fps 3-D and we were both impressed with the quality and clarity of the production. The 3-D wasn't overdone but gave you a feeling of being in the scene, just off to the side watching everything as it unfolds (and there was lots of action to watch unfold). It certainly enhanced the scene of the Dwarves in the Goblin caves. And don't get me started about the scene where Bilbo meets Gollum. Just fantastic!
Overall I would encourage everyone to see this movie. It is visually stunning, well acted with a great adaptation from the book.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Cons i have to wait a year for the next one

First, I really enjoyed this movie. The special effects accompanied by that slammin' sound track kept my heart pumping.
I would have liked to have seen a little more character and plot development but being a devotee of the original, it didn't spoil it for me.
And what happened to TRON? He didn't start "fighting for the user" until the very end!
I still had a blast!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
