The acting was fine and the setting and tone of the movie was delightfully dark and spooky. However, I would recommend reading the books first because unless you have, it's rather hard to follow. In fairness, it is difficult to condense a novel into a 90 minute or 2 hour movie.
I've enjoyed the Harry Potter movies for the most part, but I do like the books better.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
