DH1 is the first Harry since Sorcerer's Stone that has given Harry, Hermione and Ron chances to act and they rose to the challenge admirably. The direction was outstanding overall, though the frustration and desperate straits of our three heroes as they starved and struggled to determine how to take their next step was glossed over. Rowling's stories need no embellishment - they are usually lessened when attempted - and this portion stays very close to the book. To me the original movie is one of the all-time best; placing second to it is not a negative. The scenery is exquisite; the attention to detail and creativity demonstrated in Malfoy's estate and at the Ministry was top quality. Deathly Hallows 1 is an excellent, sensitive movie and sets the table for a magnificent conclusion.
