My-o-my, what a splendid production! Even if you think you are not a fan of baroque music, you will not only be surprised but you can count on being delighted and enchanted with this performance of an operatic pastiche - a new experience for me, and I daresay for most of us - an all around perfect performance of opera at its best. The singers, conductor, musicians and production team are all of the highest calibre and the inventive sets, staging and costumes were eye-catching and totally absorbing, drawing you into the stage action at every moment.

Generally speaking, I've always been unimpressed with this opera and this new production does nothing to change my opinion. Enough said on that subject.
The vocalists, chorus, musicians and conductor all performed at a very high level and produced many beautiful musical moments throughout the opera. Ms. Poplavskaya and Messrs. Kaufmann & Pape were in top form and the chorus and orchestra were outstanding. The Met has certainly been most fortunate and enriched by the addition of Maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin to its roster of conductors and I look forward to having the opportunity of appreciating his artistry in many seasons to come.

I was not expecting to be as bowled over as I was. Having previously heard Sills and Caballe in the role of Anna, I did not think it could be equalled. Boy! . was I proved wrong. When and if this production is offered for viewing in the future, RUN, don't walk, to the nearest theater and hopefully you will be lucky enough to obtain a seat. Once inside, strap yourself in as you too are going to be witnessing a stunning operatic performance that will thrill you through and through. Netrebko rules!

An extremely attractive and beautifully performed opera. A-Team singers, conductor and chorus working in a well-designed staging that moved the action along at a most pleasing pace. I am sure Maestro Verdi would have bestowed high praise on one and all involved in this excellent production.

Delightful Stellar Production

This was my first exposure to this late Rossini opera and I found it quite enjoyable. However, I do feel that my enjoyment had more to do with the singers and the staging than it had to do with the music itself. The vocalism and acting (by operatic standards) were perfection and in the true Rossinian bel canto comedic tradition. The singers were a joy to both hear and watch as they frolicked throughout the performance. The production itself - stage-within-a stage concept and the costumes - contributed to an overall highly pleasureable experience.
This is a truly beautiful and enriching operatic experience. Natalie Dessay and Joseph Calleja have set the benchmark standard for all future portrayers of Lucia and Edgardo to aspire to. The level of their vocalism was awesome and Natalie Dessay's mad scene dramatics bowled me over - she is without a doubt a superb singing actress. Conductor, orchestra and chorus are outstanding. Can't wait for the DVD release. Bravissimo!

Superbly Crafted Opera

The Metropolitan Opera has most definitely hit a beauty of an opera production out of the proverbial ballpark. The audience in the theatre I attended was nearly unaminous in its praise. Leaving the the theatre at the conclusion of this live performance I overheard so many perceptive comments about the top-notch quality of the singing, orchestral musicianship, chorus, stage design, acting and especially the believability of the characters being portrayed - really good-looking performance artists so well endowed with musical and dramatic ability. A solid Met Opera achievement that should not be missed when and/or if it is offered in encore performances.
