I did NOT read the book and really didn't know what the movie was about but my friends really wanted to see it. I thought the acting was good and I liked the characters but the story didn't seem to know what it was about. Was it about the earthly world or the in-between because the stories didn't really enhance one another? Then it seemed like the story wanted to be about Susie and her dad, then the story was about Susie and her sister, then it was about Susie and the kiss she never got and then it was about Susie and her mom. It COULD have been all those things but the story wasn't told in such a way to support that and the result, instead of being complex and rich was just confused and hard to watch.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
