Garrett is the big downfall

The movie is great. Great visuals. Great soundtrack. Engaging.
Yes, in other reviews, people have complained about the story, or lack thereof. But this is not a story movie. This is an experience movie. Well worth the experience! Just enjoy the ride.
The big problem with the movie is the lead actor. No personality. Nothing in him that makes you want to connect with him or what he's experiencing. The casting director should be fired. Because of him, I rate this movie 4 stars. Otherwise, would have given it a 5.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

absolute disaster

I saw this movie Friday evening show when first-run movies are typically packed. But the multiplex had delegated this movie to its smallest theater. And even that was empty. That was the first sign that, somehow, I was behind the curve, that this movie was going to be an absolute disaster.
Oh, but, I love Reese, been a big fan of hers from the very beginning. I so much wanted to like this movie, I so much wanted to be able to tell everyone this is a hidden gem, you must go see it.
Wasn't going to happen. The movie started bad, got worse.
Just stay away.
James Brooks has done nothing, NOTHING, worthwhile since "Terms of Endearment." Clearly, that was a fluke. Sad.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The best movie this year

Wow. Just wow.
Everything just comes together so beautifully.
And as for Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, they inhabit their roles so well, you identify with their angst and struggle without even realizing what's happening.
They're each so understated and stately.
Go see it. Otherwise, you'll regret it come Feb 27th, when this movie will sweep the awards.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Rachel Rocks

This movie is the perfect showcase for Rachel MacAdams. She's in practically every scene and the camera loves her. She's perky, charming, just wonderful. She grabs your attention and never lets it go, making you completely willing to overlook all the flaws all around her, and leaves you walking out, at the end, with a huge, satisfied smile on your face.
Why isn't Rachel as big as Julia Roberts was in her heyday? Rachel elevates this movie just as Julia used to, back then, taking an otherwise okay movie and transforming it with her screen presence.
My prediction is that although this movie most likely will flop, it will be the movie that will finally put Rachel in the spotlight with Hollywood agents and insiders.
So, go see this movie. See a star in the making. Just as the old "Morning Glory" is remembered fondly because it put Katherine Hepburn on the map, people will be talking about this movie as the one that finally put Rachel on the map. 5 stars, all for Rachel. Yes!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is how movies should be made

This movie sets the bar for all other movies.
If I have one complaint, it is this: all the best special effects in the movie are already in all the trailers and teasers online. Wish they had left a few of the mind-blowing effects to be viewable only in the movie itself. Still, how Nolan weaves together all these brilliant effects into a comprehensive whole is the heart of the movie.
Oh wait, I have one other minor complaint: The music, "Mind Heist" which is the thrust of Trailer No. 3, is nowhere in the movie. Hans Zimmer's music in the movie is Oscar-worthy, indeed it is the soul of the movie, but ... Mind Heist tops every track in the movie.
(Side note: I wish someone in the studios notices all the internet buzz about Mind Heist and gives Zack Hemsey, its composer, a big blockbuster movie of his own to compose in its entirety).
Finally, to everyone complaining the movie is too complicated: it's definitely not. Nolan should emulate that other savant, Steve Jobs, and tell all his complainers, "Just don't see it that way!"
Yes, I recommend this movie.

the screenplay needs to be tighter. too many sub-plots. too many characters. hard to care about any individual. that's why the closing scene, instead of being tender, falls flat.
i saw it in imax, and yes, the action scenes feel and look great in imax. see it in imax, if you must see this movie.
want to see a really, really good movie? go, see best foreign language oscar winner, "the secret in their eyes."
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The franchise is getting tired

I'm sorry, but I don't want to see basically the same movie over and over again. Yes, I love all movies, I see all movies. But there's nothing new here. As I walked out of the movie, I also felt let down. I paid $17 for an IMAX 3-D experience, but all I got was a fake mini IMAX (I guess most people can't tell the difference because they've never been to a real IMAX theater?), and only the opening scenes were in 3-D. If they had at least added another climactic scene in 3-D, I might have raised my stars a bit. But as it stands, I'll see the last 2 movies coming in this series only because I love going to the movies, not because I'm enchanted by the folks who put out this underwhelming product.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

without the 3D ... uninspiring

the only thing going for this movie is the awesome 3D, which has really improved technologically since previous 3D movies.
The story is uninspiring, the animation mediocre.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

See It for the Performances

You will regret not seeing this movie when you hear about the powerful performances. The two principle characters, especially Langella, are so authentic, this movie should be used in film acting schools as a model for would-be actors. Oh yes, the movie is a bit slow at times, but still, I was transfixed. I was disappointed to see the small auditorium only half full on a Saturday evening when, across the hall, an auditorium double the size, showing Uninvited, was packed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
