I've seen all the Harry Potter movies and was just as lost in this one as I was the others. It was filled with magic, action, and humor. That was enough to make it enjoyable. The movie will definitely hold your attention. However, as with the other movies in this series, it would be most beneficial to read the books first. The bottom line is that it is entertaining and that is what this is all about.
I saw this race live on television, and in my opinion, it was the greatest sports feat in the history of sports. And, at 61 years old, I have seen many. The movie was very, very good and I liked the way they told the history of the horse and the owner leading up to the Belmont Stakes. The race scenes were very good. But, if I had to make one criticism, it would be their portrayal of the final race of the Triple Crown. I really hoped that they would either show origninal clips of the race, or recreate it for us. Instead they called much of it and you didn't get to see the scenes that live with me to this day. To see Secretariat breaking away from the pack at the end of the backstretch was unbelieveable. And, the scene that sends chills down my spine to this day, where the camera panned out to show Secretariat running alone down the home stretch, was missing. View the original clip of the race and make your own judgment. Outside of that, I would highly recommend this movie.
I was really looking forward to seeing Hereafter. However, I was very disappointed. The movie had its moments and Matt Damon played very well. But, this movie had so much potential that was literally wasted. The movie started out with a bang, but quickly turned to a long, slow, progressive plot that featured tragedies of three people, including Matt. It hopped from one boring sub-plot to the other with no apparent tie to each other until the end of the movie. Some of the movie was in sub-titles, and the settings gave it the appearance of a foreign movie. Bourne Identity lovers will be bored to tears with the very limited action the movie had to offer. Those interested in life on the other side will be disappointed that there was very little attention given to the afterlife at all. Those interested in a love story will be rewarded with only small tidbits of something that could have been so much better if more time had been spent in that area. There could have been a lot more done with the scenes that Bryce Dallas Howard was in. I almost went out and signed up for cooking school after seeing that scene. And, his big love scene with Cécile De France amounted to one kiss and a flash premonition of things to come. The biggest positive was the successful way that Matt was able to portray a truly legitimate psychic in a world of charlatans and "wanna be" pretenders. I would only recommend this movie for people with a deep interest in psychic phenomena.
I haven't seen a movie this good in 25 years on the Silver Screen. And, by the way, it was this movie that I saw 25 years ago. It has Science Fiction. It has Comedy. It has Love. It has superior acting. It has great one-liners. It was set up for a sequel, and the sequel was set up to change the original in any way that it wanted. It has everything. So, make like a tree and leave, to go see this movie.
