Fun Movie

Hall Pass: I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny. It had a very good grasp of how men think, and the little games they play, and how women perceive and respond to them. It attempts to answer the age old question, is the grass really greener on the other side? But, you have to be the one to make that decision. So, go see the movie and decide for yourself. I would recommend this movie to anyone with a sexually mature mind. However, if nudity offends you, you might want to make a different choice.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best Surprise Of Year So Far

I Am Number 4: I didn’t expect much when I went to see this movie. As a matter of fact, I went because the timing was just wrong to see the other movies I wanted to see. So, what a surprise! I really liked it. When I started rating movies, I was very liberal with my ratings. As I continued to rate, I realized that there really needs to be a clear distinction between very good movies and the all-time greats. So, when I rate a movie a 5, it is something that I would buy and keep the rest of my life. This movie was not in the same category as a movie like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or even Back To The Future. However, it was a very, very good movie. I saw it last week and I saw it again this week. It is that good. It has plenty of action. It has romance. It has a very good story line. And, it made me want to see a sequel. I am only sorry that I did not see this movie earlier, as it is phasing out of the theatres now. I recommend that you find at theatre near you where it is still playing and go to see it while you can still see it on the big screen.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Must Like Shoot'em Up War Movies

Battle: Los Angeles: I really like Science Fiction Movies, but am not so excited about blood and guts military movies. I went to this movie hoping for a little more Science Fiction, as in Independence Day or the original War Of The Worlds. There were hints of both movies in this movie. However, it strongly leaned more towards movies like Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan. Since I do not like those types of movies, I had to look for other values. And, rating this movie depends entirely on what you are looking for because it does not have much to offer in the line of variety for all to enjoy. If you are looking for a military action flick of nearly nonstop shooting, I would give it 5 stars. If you are looking for a love story, forget it. If you like Science Fiction, I would barely rate it 3 stars. Overall, I think the character development was week, at best. It had its moments in the subplots about the Staff Sergeant’s past and his concern for a civilian boy and his father. But, the movie never got very deep into the lives and concerns of the population in general or what was happening in the rest of the world. It focused on one small group of soldiers and followed them in their effort to save the world. The saving grace for this movie was the constant entertainment brought about by its action-packed storyline.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Top Notch Espionage Movie

“Unknown”: As usual, the Previews give you a really good idea of what to expect in this movie. If you have seen Liam Neeson movies before and liked them, then you will not be disappointed. I thought that he was great in “Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace”. I thought that he was great in “Batman Begins”. I thought that he was great in “Taken”. And, I thought that he was great in “Unknown”. Most likely, I will go see any movie that he plays in. Diane Kruger, of National Treasure fame, also did very well. There was plenty of action. It was thought provoking. And, it entertained me. I struggled deciding whether to give it four stars or five. But, in the end I gave it four stars because I did not think that enough time was spent on developing the characters who really made the difference at the end of the movie. It was like trying to decide what was going on throughout the entire movie without being given enough information to even make an intelligent guess. Then, out of nowhere, a villain appears that you didn’t even know existed. But, on the other hand, maybe we were given some of that information and just didn’t see it. After all, we do know who the good guy is. Don’t we? It was a tough call. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes spy stories. I would not recommend this movie to those who dislike seeing violence.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Sanctum: Very Good Movie

Sanctum: If you like suspense, hiking, and cave diving, then I recommend that you check this movie out. However, you will be missing out big time though, if you do not see it in 3-D. I saw it in IMAX and 3-D and the visual effects were some of the best I’ve seen in recent movies. I am not a big 3-D fan. Most of the time, it just gets in my way and I wish I had seen it on a flat screen. But, not this time. From the beginning, the visual effects made the movie. At one point, I swatted something away that really wasn’t there. It was in the 3-D part of the movie. (I hope nobody saw me.) At another point, the water was rising up the screen and at any second I felt like it was going to pour over the screen and into my lap. That is where the IMAX really made the 3-D sensational. There were a couple of sub plots that made the story more alive, especially the father – son relationship. It is remarkable to see how that relationship changed as reality came into play. Outside of the visual effects, another great thing about this movie was the very powerful message behind the story. Our society has gradually evolved into a society of people who judge others simply by appearance, without knowing all the facts. Even the most obvious is not always reality. You may have heard that we should judge no one until we have walked in his shoes. But, in reality, we should never judge anyone, as no two people will ever travel the same exact path, even if we do share similar experiences. Life is made up of difficult choices and we really don’t know how we will react to them until we are faced with those choices under fire. I recommend this movie to everyone, except two types of people. One, if you are claustrophobic, then either peek through the holes in your baseball cap, or stay as far away from this movie as you can. Two, if you have been sheltered all of your life and not been exposed to life’s harsh realities, then see a cartoon movie instead.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Watch The Preview First

The Green Hornet: When you go to a movie like this, it is important to focus on the real purpose of the movie. That is why it is important to watch the previews before going. If you are a real fan of the Comic Book, the name of the movie first grips you with the feel of excitement. Wow! This is going to be a great addition to a series of movies like Superman, Batman, The Incredible Hulk, Spider Man, Iron Man, etc. However, when you see the previews, it becomes very obvious that the movie was not written to be a serious crime fighting movie. The antics of Seth Rogen clearly reflect this in the previews. Therefore, one should quickly be able to decide if this is what you really want to see or not before going. If you are looking for a movie that falls in line with the great ones mentioned above, then I would not go see this movie. However, if you want a good laugh, and appreciate the humor that Seth Rogen can deliver, then this is a movie that I think you will enjoy. It was funny. And, every time I heard Seth talk, I immediately thought of his voice characterization of B.O.B on the movie Monsters vs. Aliens. If that doesn’t make you laugh, then nothing will. (Many of you who are Seth Rogen fans and don’t know of that voice part, will more than likely run out to the store and rent Monsters vs. Aliens this weekend just to hear his voice. I rated that movie 5 stars.)
As for ratings, I felt that Seth was good at portraying that type of humor. However, I thought that Jay Chou, as Kato, was excellent and was the one true thread that held this movie together.
I did not like the casting very much. The throwing together of totally opposite personalities was a little grating on my nerves. And, the constant (but unsaid) friction between Kato and Britt Reid would normally not lend itself to the cooperation required for such a grand endeavor. At times, Batman and Robin had some friction between them as well. However, it was more because they were too much alike as opposed to complete opposites. The combination of Seth and Jay just didn’t feel right. But, maybe it was intended that way.
I thought that Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Tom Wilkinson were better suited for a serious version of The Green Hornet. In this, they appeared to have wasted their talents. As a matter of fact, I think they would have been great in the same roles in a serious version. I like Cameron Diaz in anything she does. She handles comedies just as well as serious movies. However, I think she could have done better if she were not overshadowed by Seth’s overacting.
There was plenty of action in this movie. However, beware. If you are bringing your children to see a soft comedy, then there are some pretty graphic scenes that you need to be aware of. If you are extra protective of your children, then go see it yourself first and then make the decision as to whether to bring your kids back to see it or not.
And finally, I think that you see such a vast discrepancy in the User Ratings because some users apparently didn’t target the movie or they just don’t like Seth Rogen. They may have been looking for something other than what they saw. I think that it would be very difficult to fairly rate a movie if you didn’t like the star to begin with. In that case, I would simply not rate it and go on to the next one. I rate this movie 3 stars, but don’t go out of your way to see it if there is something better you want to see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I Hate To Disagree With The Critics

Sorry folks. I have a tenancy to think for myself. By reading the other User Reviews and the Critics Reviews, one would think that this movie is in the upper echelon of all time movie remakes. Maybe I was watching a different movie because I just didn’t see that in this movie.
I gauge how a good movie is either by how it entertains me, or how it educates me. It can do neither if it lulls me to sleep. (I didn’t really fall asleep.) I can’t remember ever seeing a remake of a very good movie that actually equaled the original. Maybe remakes are made for people who just hadn’t seen the first one.
I didn’t go to compare Jeff Bridges with John Wayne, Matt Damon with Glen Campbell, or Hailee Steinfield with Kim Darby. However, I know you want an opinion here. So, here it is. I thought that Jeff Bridges’ portrayal of a cantankerous old man was great. However, I got the impression that he completely forgot about playing the part of a U.S. Marshal. Wayne pulled off both superbly. He played the drunken cantankerous old man, and still showed a somewhat disenchanted, but effective respect for his position as a lawman. I gave a slight edge to Matt Damon over Glen Campbell as the Texas Ranger. And, I thought that Hailee was almost a clone of Kim Darby. In other words, they were both superb.
To be completely honest, to me the first half of the movie was a complete bore. I felt like the movie spent more time developing the characters than it did actually entertaining me. For a Western, it showed very little action until the big showdown at the end, which was pretty good, but did not live up to my expectations. The ending was a bitter disappointment as well. I found myself wondering why one would make a remake of a movie if it didn’t improve upon the original. After all, you are competing with a legend.
I went home and watched an episode of Gunsmoke on TV in black and white and rated it 5 stars. It was much cheaper too.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I Loved It

I was very impressed by this movie. Somehow, musicals have fallen through the cracks in recent years, which is a real shame. However, occasionally good ones are made, like Chicago and Burlesque. I am not saying that I think Burlesque was as good as Chicago. But, it was very good. Cher’s acting skills and Christina’s voice were superb, and I found myself wishing that Burlesque would make a comeback. Personally, I think that the timing of the movie release may have reduced its chances of becoming a bigger hit. There are just so many good movies out there for Christmas that many people may not have been able to see them all and still have money for presents. If you haven't seen it yet and you don't wait too long, you can still see it at selected theatres.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Better Tron Than The Original

I liked this Tron better than the first one. If you are looking for a passionate love story, a true action movie, or a story with a really strong plot, then this is not the best move out there for you to see. However, I doubt that if you were not impressed with the previews of this movie that you would really spend the money to see it anyway. On the other hand, if you like computers and enjoy really good visual effects, then I think that you will find it very entertaining, and that’s what we go to movies for. The movie does have a storyline, of sorts, and is laced with mild action, a growing father/son relationship, really good looking women in tights, and suggests a possible future romance. If you can see this in 3-D and IMAX, then it will really enhance the visual effects for you.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great Movie - Must See

If you like cartoons, this movie is a must see for both adults and children. Each character is great and the story has a twist that will challenge you to reconsider who the hero really is. I found myself falling for Tina Fey, as I usually do, even as a cartoon. I wasn't so crazy about the 3-D. So, in my opinion it doesn't matter how you see it. Just see it. This is the best cartoon movie since Monsters vs. Aliens.
