I am a long time Trekker, but entered the movie with no real expectations of maintaining the classic 'Trek storyline. That was good, because the old story line is out the window. I enjoyed the actors well enough; the cast is likeable. The story, however, was irrational and poorly explained. Temporal manipulation is the Deus ex machina in sci-fi today, and Abrams loves it so, I guess I'm not surprised. In any case, the FX are stupefying, the pace is brisk, and the film is generally fun. If one lets go of the past, I think the reboot can be successful. They need better writing, though. 'Trek fans will not put up with bad stories.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
