I worked at Belmont for 26 years and for Lucien Lauren when he first got Secretariat AT BELMONT. I think Disney took far too many liberties with this movie about the greatest Race horse in my lifetime. And, what about his stablemate, Riva Ridge, who was said to be Penny's favorite and whom she won the Derby with in 1972. And with Ron Turcotte up! So, A) she did not just meet Ron T. , B) Secretariat was trained at Belmont, Not on the farm, C) Angle Light was also trained by Lucien Lauren, was Secretariats stablemate also and He won the 1973 Wood Memorial and D) They put a placard on the outside rail of Keeneland and it said "Belmont Park ". Well, first of all, Belmont does Not have stone pillars trackside nor farmland and barns across from the grandstand! Oh, but Keeneland does. I could go on, but why bother. Disney should be ashamed for cheaping out on this one and I hope someone comes out with a real story about this horse. And, not to mention "oh happy day"? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? They couldn't even find a great song for a magnificient horse.......
