Too violent for that age group

This was our first family movie together - our kids are 2.5 and 5.
We ended up having to leave the movie early as the 5 year old really did not like all the violence.
I had hoped for a fun entertaining movie but ended up feeling like I was sitting in a sinister violent movie that was for kids because of the cartoon character but otherwise not at all appropriate for a G overall rating.
Here we are trying to teach our older son that hitting and pushing is not ok and the movie starts with violence right from the get go.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
