Bad to the Bone

Lots of good actors in a surprisingly weak film. Of course, I didn't except much - but the film didn't even follow its own internal rules...Who was filming the para-sailing girl? That little side bar made no sense at all. Why did the fish sometimes devour people to the bone and sometimes just nibble them till they died leaving all that good meat? And some of the sheriff's choices are really dumb. Dumb even for a movie like this.
And oddly with all the obvious and admiring nods to Jaws the filmmakers had apparently never watched it. The true beauty of Jaws is its perfect structure. Piranha has no structure at all. And the campy laughs are few indeed. But it is always good to see Ms. Shue at work...We need to see her more.
