I went with my mother, because she read a positive review and wanted to see it. I saw it just to accommodate her, but I ended up liking it more than she did. It's a fun journey along the filmmaker's unexpected path. You don't need to be an art-lover to enjoy this movie.
I had read a dreadful review in the Miami Herald before taking my child to see The Spy Next Door, so my expectations were low. That said, I think the movie fulfilled its goal of being entertaining to children. My son and his buddies laughed and interacted with the movie all the way through. The acting was mostly horrible, the stunts and effects were amateurish and the plot was thin, but I got to spend an hour and a half watching my son have a great time. What's better than that?
I went to this movie with my daughter because she wanted to see it, and I figured I would be in for a cute movie. I got much more than that. I thought it was very enjoyable, funny, touching and, well, OK, it was cute, too. It was not without its flaws. Several plot points were overdone, and others were left unresolved, but all in all, it exceeded my expectations.
