Having seen Nine on stage with Antonio Banderas I was really looking forward to this film. But where Banderas was such a charmer that you couldn't help but fall under his spell, Day- Lewis is a self absorbed narcissus who is self destructing. The musical numbers were well staged and performed but it's hard to care about the plot when you dislike the primary characture.
I'm not a Holmes purist. As entertainment, I enjoyed the movie. It had non stop action, clever plot deversions and sequels written all over it. Loved the scenic depiction of the time period.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

First you have to know that I had tickets to this show in London for Jan 12th 2010. Watching this I was either smiling at Michael's perfectionism and ability to mesmerize his young cast of singers, dancers ect.,or dancing along in my seat or crying for the loss of this rare human being. The likes of him will never pass this way again. What a show this was going to be. I'm greatful they had all this film to share with us. Don't miss it.
Paul Rudd's quest for a male best friend is both slap-stick funny and achingly sweet as this grown up man tries to be "one of the boys". The supporting, all star cast is outstanding. I found the whole thing an amusing, popcorn flavored "hoot" , with enough heart to rank it above the typical "stoner" guy flick.
