I loved this movie. It was complex, thoughtful, emotional and exciting to watch. I found the characters compelling, believable, and flawed. If you're looking for a Michael Bay Transformers 2 blast-fest, this won't be your film. If you're looking for every question to be neatly answered for you, not your flick either. The movie intentionally leaves a lot of open ends. These openings left me thinking about the many possibilities long after the film was over. There was a lot to talk to my friends about.
The setting in South Africa provided a background of irony given that country's history. I can't wait to pick it up on Blu-Ray to explore some of the subtle plot elements.
We took our 5 year old to see it. She's just old enough to not get scared by the action/fighting. The story was better than I expected. Jack Black and his colloquialism make the main character Po the Panda. The animation adds loads of visual humor to the script. At 91 minutes, perfect for younger kids.
