This movie was absolutely fantastic. The plot was well constructed and thought out. It was an emotional roller-coaster and thrill ride the whole way through.
The acting was superb which was absolutely crucial in this kind of movie.
It was an action-packed travel through the mind. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoyed movies such as the Matrix. As one friend remarked to me after the movie, "It did almost everything the Matrix tried to do but better."
I would see it again. It was very thought provoking.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Last Plot Through a Blender

As someone who had watched the full series I was excited to see the Last Air Bender in theaters. However, when I started watching my hopeful excitement turned to dread.
A number of things turned me off to the movie right away:
---------------------------------------------------------
***Poor acting - The dialog seemed forced in many scenes. "Are you okay?" - "I'm okay." There was little emotion where there should have been.
***Plot Gone Awry - The original plot of the series was only present in small unorganized chunks. Most of the important information was given during voice-overs or horridly long monologues from aging unimportant characters.
The individual I saw this movie with described it as such, "It was as though the plot was: give a bunch of people super powers and make them fight. Then, give one person all the powers, but make him a child and make him unable to cope with his abilities."
***Low Key Martial Arts - The effects and fluidity behind the Martial Art of bending was dramatically reduced in this movie. Most of the bending forms were unceremoniously accompanied much later by their respective element. The intensity and energy that could have been transferred to the acting with this was lost in translation.
***Unfaithful to the Series - Many key elements were changed from the series to the movie. Whole characters changed their utility and personality. Plot threads were cut and rewoven. If you or your children were big fans of the series then I would stay away from the movie as it will be sorely disappointing.
---------------------------------------------------------
However, it might be a decent movie to bring your children to had they not watched the series. If you ignore the bad acting, the jumping around, and the predictable plot then it would make a decent film. Children between 5 and 9 years of age should have no problem watching this movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
