Angela Jolie is paraded around Venice in various vehicles like a figurehead on a sailing ship. She's almost a caricature of herself. Johnny Depp acts mostly like he's taken too much Xanax. 1/2 hour worth of plot in an almost 2-hour movie. ZZZZZZZ.
My wife and I were simply blown away by how good this movie was. Christina Aguilera can pull a song from deep inside and share it with the world with power and grace. Cher is just perfect as the Burlesque owner and mentor to Christina, demonstrating her own powerful singing and acting skills. See this. See it twice. Buy it on DVD when it comes out -- we're going to!
While the information provided by this 2 1/2 hour slooowwwww movie is probably essential to appreciating next year's finale, it is in no way worth paying even matinee prices to see -- as we did yesterday.
I expected more than trite characters and slow action from a Denzel Washington film. One significant plot twist, that's about it. Probably worth seeing when it's on DVD but I wouldn't recommend seeing it in theaters.
I liked it but thought it would have been worth matinee price more than full price. My wife thought it was "juvenile" but "ok." I'm sure my teenaged son will like it.
My wife and I very much enjoyed The Forbidden Kingdom as a silly, action-filled, campy outing by the amazingly-still-fit Jackie Chan and Jet Li, with fine performances by Michael Angarano and Yifei Liu. If you're looking for serious theater-fugedaboutit. But for a fun night out, it was worth it. Only complaint -- none of post-feature outtakes we've come to expect from Jackie Chan movies, but perhaps the fact that he wasn't the producer resulted in this abyssmal loss.
