Had seen to previews for Unknown and seemed 'up my street' as an intelligent action thriller. Then I read some reviews and wondered, as always these days, whether the best bits were actually in the preview. Good news is there were plenty of surprises come. Yes, some of it is implausible but this is cinema. It has flashes or the Bourne series but for me that isn't a bad thing. An all time classic? No. But well worth the ticket price.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The preview provides promise but the film disappoints. My advice. Wait until the DVD comes out (won't be too far away). This makes a perfect relationship movie to watch with your partner at home on a sofa with a take out. Then you can explore your own inadequacies at leisure and (hopefully) commit to working harder at addressing each others needs! I like Vince Vaughn and Kevin James and I admire Ron Howard's work - but the elements of this film don't gel. The outline story is sound and worth telling but falls apart through poorly developed characters and stuttering plot. Maybe things got chopped in the edit. Save your money and buy or rent the DVD.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Enjoyable movie with great casting and strong acting by Bale and Wahlberg that exposes that grubbier side of boxing. Not sure it's a film I'd watch more than once or buy on DVD but well worth the ticket price.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Masterpiece of cinematography

Many films that originate from true stories often end up being glorified documentaries that simply present the facts. The King's Speech is no documentary. This film is a beautifully crafted piece of cinema from master filmmakers that unfolds the (true) story and relationships between the characters. You can tell each shot is lovingly framed and produced. Outstanding acting, especially by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, that is honest, funny and touching. What a refreshing change from the formulaic, over produced films of late. Go see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Dwayne Johnson has compelling screen presence in this role as ex-convict who has one goal - to seek justice. Billy Bob Thornton provides a counter-point, a flawed man whose life is seemingly falling part. The story was simpler than many films these days, it was strong enough to keep you interested for the 1hour 38 minutes. Worth a watch!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I wanted to like this movie. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The iconic 1987 original had a strong plot, great acting and captured the energy of the time.
By comparison, this $70 million sequel was pedestrian (I looked at my watch 3 times) and probably 15mins too long at 2hrs 7mins. Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf are undoubtedly watchable and on paper this film should have worked but the execution from director Oliver Stone feels half-baked.
