i was, however, quite appalled to hear the audience's uproarious laughter when Buzz *gasp* begins speaking in Spanish. this was only one of many instances of bias present in this movie...from the "dumb" blonde Barbie act...(which again evoked laughter when she said something *intelligent*....to the portrayal of most of the male toy characters as the *bad guys*...to the bookworm's negative reaction to ken's non-normative male behavior...THIS MOVIE IS CHOCK FULL OF STEREOTYPES USED TO GET CHEAP LAUGHS...
research has suggested that preschoolers are able to pick up on subtle cultural nuances that can affect their perceptions of others...children LEARN these stereotypes through various methods...observation of parents, language of teachers, books, and of course...through the MEDIA!
while i thought the movie was quite clever, i think that parents should be aware of the stereotypes conveyed through this film so that they can decide how to discuss them with their children upon viewing it...
