good but had potential to be great

I love Steve Carrell and clever animated movies so I had really high hopes for this. I brought my 10 and 8 year old kids along with two of their friends. Because my daughter gets freaked out from 3D movies we saw the non-3D version. I immediately felt that the movie was made to be 3D. Although the animation was impressive in the regular theater there were many scenes that seemed to be created simply for the impact that the 3D effects would have on the audience. The potential for greatness, I think was the story. I felt it was sort of rushed - Gru went from wanting to get rid of the girls to wanting them around a little too quickly. It could have been developed a bit more. I giggled a few times but that was it. The minions were cute but not hilarious like I was lead to believe. All in all I'm glad we went but I won't feel the need to see it again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
