This could have been a terrific movie - as the underlying idea is fun --
However, the story line lost is impetus with a series of flashbacks that did not aid the viewer at all. It ended up as a contrived story-telling vehicle.
The pacing started out promising, but muddled into a drawn out pastiche of non-starters/
While the final 20 minutes is the best, once feels as one has slogged through as poorly told screenplay of what might have been a better book.
While Julia Roberts and Clive Owen were up to the task, the screenplay and the director were not.
How other reviewers said this was a sensational movie is truly mysterious.

This is an honest gripping journey of Jews evading HItler's willing executioners.
Fleeing into the dense forests, a rag tag group of accidental refugees find the leadership of two brothers with different perspectives of survival.
The acting is top notch with Liev Schrieber and Daniel Craig providing strong performances and an ensemble providing heart-rending support.

Woody Allen began by molding a clever, romantic farce, which had the makings of a fine zesty erotic romance. However, the movie lost its roots after about an hour and muddied along with no clever resolve. The "foreplay" melted into a puddle of ooze with no one willing to commit to being in an erotic piece. It simply wimped out in both story line and sexual tension. One would think that a truly erotic comedy was sent to the "powers that be", who left most of it on the editors floor so no one would be offended in any way.
Totally unsatisfying -- after a the first 45 minutes.
